Academic career highlights
• Since February 2012 is lecturing ‘Economy of Energy and Natural Resources’ for Economy undegraduates at ISG – Instituto Superior de Gestão.
• Since January 2012 developing a PhD thesis on Geography and Territorial Planning, area of Natural Resources Management on the theme of “Biodiversity and Planning: From Policy to Strategy, from Strategy to Action” at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, New University of Lisbon (FCSH-UNL).
• Since February 2011 started supervising MSc students in the field of Business Management and Administration, Marketing and Sustainability in CIGEST/ISG Business School R&D Center.
• During the time as Director/partner of AmBioDiv – Valor Natural (2005-July 2010) co-directed 5 MSc thesis mostly in Applied Ecology and Sustainable Development, 4 of them completed successfully and with very high classification.
• Proceeded with further research on the role of wild bees and wasps as bioindicators applied to the management and land use planning in protected areas (FCUL, 2000-2005), participating in several papers published on this subject and co-supervising a series of graduation and MSc thesis.
• Majored in Ecology and Conservation Biology at the Faculty of Sciences, Lisbon University (FCUL, 1998)

Professional career highlights
• Since July 2011 is the delegate of ISG/INP (Group Ensinus) in the Business Council for Sustainable Development Portugal.
• Since January is working as a Researcher in CIGEST/ISG Business School R&D Center, as coordinator and project planner/manager of the area of Sustainability and Natural Economy, with special focus on ‘Transfer of Knowledge (ToK) Protocols with other R&D units, NGOs, corporations and SMEs www.cigest.ensinus.pt
• Since January 2011 collaborates with WWF Med in the ‘HABEaS portal - Hotspot Areas for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services’ www.habeas-med.org
• Worked as a freelancer consultant in agroecology and forest biodiversity, both for the academic and private sector (1998-2001).
• From January to October 2010 worked as an independent consultant for WWF in the ‘New Generation Plantations’ project, being responsible for the theme ‘Biodiversity’. www.newgenerationplantations.com
• Also in cooperating with the cork sector coordinated the report “Valuation of Ecosystem Services at the Local Scale - Case Study: The Role of the Cork Oak Montado at Herdade da Machoqueira do Grou” which results in one of the first studies in the world to evaluate Ecosystem Services at such a small (property) scale.
• In July 2010 left AmBioDiv and re-started as a freelancer consultant working in the areas of ‘Business & Biodiversity’, ‘Biodiversity Action Plans in FSC context’, ‘Ecosystem Services Valuation’ and ‘Environmental Responsibility’.
• From 2008 to July 2010 worked in cooperation with the cork sector (Corticeira Amorim and the European Cork Confederation) in order to develop communication plans and activities for disseminating the role of cork oak forests in Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services conservation.
• From 2008 to July 2010 coordinated the Municipal Biodiversity Strategies of 4 local authorities (Alvaiázere, Estarreja, Nisa and Marvão).
• In 2007 was involved in the genesis of 4 of the 10 first ‘Business & Biodiversity’ (B&B) Strategies that built up the national platform of B&B, namely Grupo Portucel Soporcel (forestry), Grupo Delta Cafés (coffee retail), Chamartín Imobiliária (real estate) and Herdade do Freixo do Meio (agroforestry, organic farming).
• From 2007 to July 2010 coordinated the Biodiversity Action Plans for Aliança Florestal (Grupo Portucel Soporcel) in order to provide full compliance with FSC principles 6 and 9.
• In 2005 funded AmBioDiv – Valor Natural, Ltd, a SME dedicated to consultancy in the area of Biodiversity Strategy and Environmental Management. In 2006, coordinated the first Biodiversity Action Plan developed by a private sector company for a private sector company in Europe (Herdade do Freixo do Meio, 2006-2007) and also the first Biodiversity Strategy for a company working in Portugal (Vitacress, 2006-2007).
